A CROWD of more than 10,000 braved the elements to see history created at the Inter Dominion Grand Final at Tabcorp Park, Menangle on Sunday.

Cobbitty-trained horse Beautide completed the rare double of winning the Miracle Mile and the Inter Dominion, a feat not achieved since Our Sir Vancelot in 1997.

Beautide also covered the 3000m in a world record time of 1:55.5. The grand final is usually rotated between tracks in Australia and New Zealand but Tabcorp Park managed to secure the event for three consecutive years culminating with next year’s event.

Beautide won with more than 5m to spare over Seel N Print, with For A Reason third.

The father of victorious driver James Rattray, Barrie could barely contain his excitement in the aftermath.

“If this is not the best then I don’t know what is ... whatever it is, it’s going to be hard to top,” Barrie said.

Beautide did it the hard way in Sunday’s race after doing plenty of work outside the leader.

After settling midfield early, James Rattray elected to angle Beautide three wide into the ‘death seat’ at the 1200m mark as Kiwi star Smolda worked to the lead.

With the quarters of the last mile clocked in 26.5, 30.0, 28.6 and 27.1, Beautide cruised to the line with more than five metres to spare.

Tabcorp Park chief executive John Dumesny was thrilled by the performance.

“He had the hardest run of the race and he was absolutely devastating,” he said.

“It was a brilliant performance.”

There were seven group one races on the card, showing the prestige of the premier race day.
