A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a bus passenger 30 times in front of other commuters in Sydney’s southwest.

Maara Teara-Jones, 22, fronted Campbelltown District Court on Wednesday but no application for bail was made.

About 1.15pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to a bus stop at the intersection of Sackville St and Barff Rd, Ingleburn, following reports a man had been stabbed multiple times.

Officers found an 18-year-old man with serious injuries after allegedly being stabbed about 30 times on a bus by a man known to him.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. He is now in a stable, but serious, condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives launched an investigation into the attack.

Following inquiries, police arrested Teara-Jones at a bus stop on Eucalyptus Drive at Macquarie Fields, about 3pm on Thursday. He was taken to Campbelltown police station where he was charged with attempted murder.

The matter returns to court on January 24.
