A newlywed woman has confessed to operating a ‘hydro house’ in the heart of Harrington Park, with cannabis plants, heat lamps and 72kg of cannabis leaf discovered inside an unfurnished four-bedroom home she had been renting with cash.
A tip-off led police to the Jenolan Cct property last September, with officers uncovering three ‘grow-rooms’ featuring 53 cannabis plants in total, and hydroponic equipment. Endeavour Energy staffers also inspected the home, revealing an illegal bypass had been installed.
Melisa Huseinspahic, of Fairfield West, had rented the property for $750 cash weekly payments since December 2018, despite her fortnightly Centrelink payments totalling less than a single week’s rent.
Inside the hydro-house, which was empty when police arrived, officers found X-rays and doctor referrals - all in the name of Huseinspahic.
The 40-year-old woman presented to Narellan Police Station five days after the raid, where she was arrested and declined to be interviewed.
In Picton Local Court on Tuesday, the Fairfield West woman pleaded guilty to knowingly take part in the commercial cultivation and cannabis supply.
She will be sentenced in Campbelltown District Court later this year.
