Harrington Park has unearthed a new superhero, with cafe-owner Michael Nemra a lifesaver after 73-year-old customer Margaret Brown suffered a heart attack.
The Olly and Me Cafe owner served Harrington Park resident Margaret Brown her usual raisin toast and hot chocolate when the critical health situation unfolded.
As sirens raced towards the Harrington Park cafe, Mr Nemra held Ms Brown’s hand throughout the entire ordeal.
“Margaret is so full of life and energy, with everyone in the shopping centre knowing her,” he said.
“She sat down by herself in the cafe, with her usual order and then we looked around and she was on the floor.
“I rushed over, moved the table, cleared the nearby customers and she wasn’t breathing very well and we called an ambulance right away.”
Paramedics arrived at the scene eight minutes later, with her heart rate beating at 39 bpm.
Shane Brown, Ms Brown’s only son, said he was in complete admiration of Mr Nemra’s actions.
“It just means so much to myself and the family,” he said.
“Something life-threatening happened to my Mum when I wasn’t there, but someone was there to hold her hand the whole way.
“How can you thank someone for that.”
Mr Brown has been searching for his mother late Saturday afternoon after noticing her car in the Harrington Park Plaza car park, unaware of the events which took place earlier that day.
Cafe-owner Mr Nemra said he did what anyone else would do in the life-threatening situation.
“I think its quite a natural reaction and not anything special at all,” he said.
“When you see a person who needs help, especially an elderly person, you just help.
“The feedback has been surprising because Harrington Park is already an amazing community, I just didn’t think it was that special.”
Mr Brown shared his appreciation on the Facebook community noticeboard, with more than 1400 likes on the post.
Margaret Brown is recovering at hospital with minor complications as Mr Brown thanked the community for their help.
“We are quite lucky with the response from all the people around her,” she said.
“She seems to have come a whole lot better in recent days.”
