DESPITE it not coming away with a single Golden Globe this month, fans of Hacksaw Ridge can hold hope that a few Oscars may be on the way for the epic World War II film.
The blockbuster, short partly in Bringelly, will go to the Academy Awards with nominations in six categories including best picture, best director for Mel Gibson and best actor for Andrew Garfield.
It is also nominated in the best sound editing, best sound mixing and best film editing categories.
The film tells the true story of US Army medic Desmond T. Doss who served during the Battle of Okinawa. He refused to kill people and became the first conscientious objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honour.
During the filming last year, Gibson and some members of the cast and crew checked into Rydges Campbelltown.
In December last year, the movie swept the big categories at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), picking up nine awards from 13 categories.
