GAELIC footballers from across Sydney will converge on Monarch Oval, Macquarie Fields, on Saturday for the All Sydney GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) Championship.
Twenty-one men's and women's gaelic football and hurling teams will battle for the first trophy of the Sydney GAA season.
Similar to AFL, gaelic football differs in that it uses a round ball and the object is to score between the posts or in the goal net.
Michael Cusacks GAA Club public relations officer Jamie Fitzsimons said players were looking forward to the day. Most games last season were at the oval, but this will be the first championship day locally.
"For most players it will be their game out of the year, so everyone's keen to get out on the field," she said.
Fitzsimons encouraged local residents to come and watch the games. "It will have a festival atmosphere with a number of top gaelic football and hurling players present," she said.
Entry is $10. Under-12s are free.
