A former high school teacher from southwest Sydney allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl while she was one of his students.

Mark Burnard, 60, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with six historical offences.

The Faulconbridge resident faces three counts of assault and commit act of indecency and three counts of attempted carnal knowledge by teacher of girl aged 16 years.

Court documents reveal prosecutors will allege the offences occurred between 1986 and 1988 while Mr Burnard was employed as a teacher at Elderslie High School at multiple places across Sydney including at Elderslie, Campbelltown and Hyde Park.

They will further allege that on one occasion Mr Burnard pressed his covered but erect penis into her body while kissing her.

At court on Wednesday, Magistrate David Degnan said the matter would be sent to Campbelltown where the case would be mentioned next month.
