Even the leftovers were quality at Camden’s much-loved TASTE Festival with a whopping 77kg of food waste donated to food charity OzHarvest.
The popular festival welcomed more than 100 food vendors who delighted a record 15,000 people with tantalising treats.
The unwanted leftovers, including fresh fruit and vegetables, was transformed into 230 meals for people in need in the Macarthur region.
OzHarvest NSW manager Richard Watson said council’s contribution had helped the charity in the fight against food waste.
“The delicious surplus food collected included fresh fruit and vegetables, cooked meals, bread and pastries,” he said.
Other sustainable measures employed at the event included the collection of 4000 drink containers collected by Hume Scouts as part of the Return and Earn program.
Council staff also recycled paper, cardboard boxes and plastics cups which were disposed of incorrectly.
Camden Mayor Theresa Fedeli praised council’s commitment to sustainability and said council’s Green Team would look for more waste-wise initiatives to implement.
