MACARTHUR Pink Flames under-13 girls' softball team have local bragging rights after winning this year's Australia Day junior softball tournament.

The representative team, picked from the Macarthur Softball Association, won the Canberra tournament after defeating Hornsby 4-3 in the grand final.

The Pink Flames crashed their way through the first round, winning four from five games on the Saturday, three of which were with a "mercy ruling".

The mercy ruling applies to a team in front by 15 runs after three innings, 10 runs after four or seven runs ahead after five innings.

In the second round, the Pink Flames earned another mercy ruling win on the way to the grand final.

Head coach Jason O'Daly said winning was a bonus.

"As a coach my job is to make sure the girls have fun and everyone gets to play softball, so winning was an incredible bonus," he said.

"It's such a competitive tournament, with teams from South Australia, Melbourne, Canberra and all over Sydney."

O'Daly said the win would boost the girls' confidence.

"I've seen Australia Day tournament winners return to their local competitions and dominate games," O'Daly said.
