THE first step towards the Wilton New Town development is set to begin after Walker Corporation lodged plans for 700 new homes in the recently rezoned Wilton South East precinct.
The plans propose construction of the project’s first stage which includes a town centre containing a supermarket, medical services, childcare centre, tavern and retail spaces.
Walker Corporation spokesman Tim Allerton said the overall development, which will be constructed in six stages, would be one the community could be proud of.
“The neighbourhood plan includes a new primary school adjoining two major sporting ovals, a local shopping centre, a childcare centre and community centre,” he said.
“Our design is based on the concept of a ‘walkable neighbourhood’, featuring more than 20 kilometres of cycle and path ways designed to link residents to the local shops, school and parks.
“The precinct’s streets will be wide and quiet, with mature plantings to create a green, cool environment.”
Mr Allerton said special provisions had been made to secure the health of the local koala population.
“In addition, about 40 per cent of the site has been set aside for conservation, including the corridor along Allens Creek which will link to an existing underpass under Picton Road, allowing safe passage for the local koala population,” he said.
“We understand the importance of the local koala population and we will ensure the development will have no impact on it.”
The development is currently on public exhibition and can be viewed at wollondilly.nsw.gov.au
