A historic Campbelltown mansion which has featured on reality TV series The Bachelor could soon be transformed into a childcare centre and cafe if plans to alter the 200-year-old venue are approved.

A proposal has been submitted to Campbelltown Council to replace the Eschol Park House function centre and restaurant and turn it into a 129-place child care centre with an external play area and a cafe.

The venue at 14 Eschol Park Drive was classified by the National Trust in 1987 before it was then purchased by Joe and Marija Masina in the 1990s who ran it as a wedding function centre.

Eschol Park House, which has featured on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, was sold again in 2019 to Navarra Venues, owners of popular venues such as Conca D’Oro at Riverwood and Le Montage at Lilyfield.

Dozens of couples were then left scrambling to rearrange their wedding plans after Eschol Park House announced it was closing between April and December 2019 for renovations.

However in 2021, Navarra Eschol Park Investments Pty Ltd submitted a plans to council to alter Eschol Park House for use as a centre-based child care facility, a cafe, an indoor recreation facility, offices and a function centre.

Following a request from council for more information in 2021, the plans were reviewed and submitted again proposing the childcare facility and conversion of the restaurant into a cafe.

Council documents state the plans involve the former function rooms being used for the childcare centre with some internal demolition to take place.

“The proposal contributes to a sustainable development of the site, which involves the conservation of the building and the site,” the plans state.

The proposal is currently on public exhibition and residents can submit feedback until September 14. Navarra Venues was contacted for comment.
