Multimillion-dollar plans for a new primary school in Sydney’s southwest will soon become a reality, after construction of the new Edmondson Park Public School got underway this week.
The expansive school, to be built over three levels at the corner of Buchan Ave and Faulkner Way, will see 44 new teaching spaces for as many as 1000 students.
A total of four support rooms and two additional preschool rooms, for a further 40 children, will be included in the completed development.
Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the new southwest Sydney school would be open in early 2023.
“The NSW Government is delivering this brand new primary school in Edmondson Park to support for young families living in the area,” Ms Mitchell said. “This new primary school at
Edmondson Park builds on the NSW Government’s commitment to deliver for families
across the South West Sydney region.”
Meanwhile, Holsworthy state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons said news of construction starting would be welcomed by the growing community.
A site for the school was announced by then NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian in November 2020
Principal Heather Alè, who has been an educator with the NSW Department of Education for 20 years, will lead the soon-to-be-completed school.
“As we prepare to open the new school in 2023, the Edmondson Park community was invited to vote on their preferred name for the new school and register their interest on how to make an enrolment application,” Ms Alè said.
In October, 2021, plans for the Edmondson Park High School development were also confirmed as part of the NSW Budget.
