Residents are urged to have their say on a draft neighbourhood plan that outlines the future transformation of one of Macarthur’s towns.

Wollondilly Shire Council is seeking initial community feedback on the first Neighbourhood Plan for the South East Wilton Precinct, also known as Wilton Greens.

A draft for the South East Wilton Precinct, also known as Wilton Greens, reveals planning would provide for approximately 1286 lots with a range of lot sizes, and includes both residential and employment lands, a local centre, a school, playing fields, and passive and active open spaces.

CEO Ben Taylor explained that the plan submitted to the council was similar to a land use master plan prepared prior to lodgement of a Development Application.

“It provides an overview of how development is planned to roll out in Wilton, across part, or all of a precinct,” he said.

“Council is committed to making sure that Wilton is a place where people can live happy and healthy lives, and we want to hear from people on the best way to achieve this.”

“This preliminary notification is about seeking important feedback prior to the draft Neighbourhood Plan being reported to Council.”

The council would like to hear residents’ thoughts on key elements of the concept, including how the road, cycle and pedestrian networks connect people to their neighbourhood and beyond and the provision of local facilities and infrastructure, including a school, public open space and playing fields.

Once finalised, the Neighbourhood Plan will provide guidance for future development applications for the area and will be contained in the Wilton Development Control Plan.

The draft Neighbourhood Plan applies to stages two and three of the South East Wilton Precinct. Stage one has prior development approval and is currently under construction.

Tim Clarke, sales manager at Wilton Greens, said in March there had been huge interest early in the project with over 300 land parcels sold to date.

“Many purchasers have appreciated the unique position of Wilton Greens which provides the convenience of proximity to community amenities, jobs and green open spaces,” he said.

“The development’s direct main road access to Illawarra, the Southern Highlands and Wollongong’s beaches has made it a very appealing purchasing proposition.”

In March 2021, stage one of the Wilton Greens project saw civil and subdivision works began.
