Cancer patients in southwest Sydney will soon have access to the latest advancements in treatment as well as global clinical trials, with construction beginning on a new $52 million integrated medical centre in Campbelltown.

The new cancer centre will include medical oncology and radiation oncology services, medical imaging, pathology, a clinical trials unit and allied health services, all under the one roof.

The development is the result of a partnership between Campbelltown City Council, GenesisCare, Erilyan, and the new owner of the site – NorthWest Healthcare Properties.

The population in southwest Sydney is set to boom over next 30 years, with an extra 500,000 residents expected to move into the area within three decades.

Meantime - according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly comprise three of the top seven Sydney areas ranked by cancer incidence and three of the top six Sydney areas ranked by cancer mortality.

“Our integrated cancer centre will play a critical role in ensuring cancer patients from across southwest Sydney and the Southern Highlands are able to receive rapid access to care, as well as participate in global clinical trials, closer to home,” he said.
