MACQUARIE Fields commuters are fuming over a lack of services, with almost every second train bypassing the station.
From 7am to 3.45pm on weekdays, residents travelling on the T2 Airport Line to the city have limited access to services.
Trains travelling from the city to Macarthur begin to bypass the station from 10.30am up to 7pm.
The lack of train services is not an issue on weekends.
Macquarie Fields state Labor MP Anoulack Chanthivong said the Macquarie Fields community was entitled to its “fair share”.
“This is a basic service that our residents are entitled to,” Cr Chanthivong said. “It’s only one more stop. We are a growing community and deserve our fair share. Our residents should not have to go to Ingleburn or Glenfield to catch a train.
“They (State Government) have taken our motor registry, want Hurlstone Agricultural High School, and they can’t deliver a lift at Macquarie Fields service or the basic services we need. I’m going to keep on asking until they deliver.”
A Transport NSW spokesman limited services at Macquarie Fields railway station was due to “significantly lower patronage” than Glenfield and Campbelltown stations.
“Transport NSW monitors demand for train services and prioritises improvements accordingly,” the spokesman said.
“Macquarie Fields station has significantly lower patronage than other stations between Glenfield and Campbelltown.
“Services to both Macquarie Fields and Macarthur stations are currently in line with demand, and patronage data will continue to be monitored.”
Macarthur railway station also has poor services with a number of trains stopping at Campbelltown.
Cr Chanthivong has criticised the government for failing to deliver a lift at the train station after one of the state’s wealthiest suburbs, Edgecliff, was granted a similar easy access upgrade in September last year.
“Future upgrades to station facilities as part of the Transport Access Program are also being considered on a priority basis,” a Transport NSW spokesperson said.
