MACARTHUR Football Association celebrated its 30th anniversary with the prediction 2013 may be its biggest-ever year.
The association launched the 2013 season with a function at Camden Lakeside Country Club on Thursday ahead of round one of the M-League on Sunday.
To celebrate the milestone, the association compiled a history booklet, complete with old newspaper articles and photos, a list of every division winner, individual club histories and profiles of notable former players such as Brett Emerton and Sarah Walsh.
General manager Glenn Armstrong said highlights in the association's 30 years were development of the M-League as the top tier, a strong women's program, entering the Macarthur Magic Special Needs FC and producing several international players. He said 2013 would be productive.
"Campbelltown Uniting Church is returning to the M-League and Ingleburn Eagles are making their debut in the M-League," he said.
"We've also got an increase in jersey sponsorships, which boosts the professionalism of the league," he said. "This gives us enough teams to create a second-tier competition in 2014 with a promotion-relegation system."
He said the association had Macarthur state and federal MPs' support to turn Lynwood Park into a synthetic grass stadium.
"Our politicians were particularly keen to lobby for Lynwood Park to receive funds to upgrade to synthetic turf. They were impressed that schools would be able to use it."
