WITH sprawling views of the local landscape, Campbelltown’s tallest building is nearing completion.
Phillip Square, a 10-storey apartment block on Broughton St, is set to open in October.
Harcourts Property real estate agent Garth Makowski, the selling agent, said the new building would be a game changer for the Campbelltown CBD.
“It’s essentially the first CBD building to be built,” Mr Makowski said.
“All the other apartment buildings that have gone up in Campbelltown have been a fair way from public transport.
“This is a 150m walk from Campbelltown station.”
Mr Makowski said the building’s design and the incorporated environmental elements would help set a trend for apartments in Campbelltown.
“It’s really the benchmark development for the city, and other developers can only try to up that benchmark from here,” he said.
“Phillip Square is the first eco ‘green’ friendly project, with a huge U-shaped atrium resting on the front face that will be clad with green foliage walls over nine levels.
“You want these 10-storey developments because different standards apply in the building code compared to a six-storey development. This is of a higher quality in both construction and design.”
Buyers have already snapped up 70 of Phillip Square’s 92 apartments.
“We’ve had first home buyers and investors show a lot of interest,” Mr Makowski said.
“Apartments are an affordable option for first home buyers and being close to public transport it means a young family only needs one car.”
Mr Makowski said he understood there was some community concerns as high-rise proposals around Campbelltown became more common, but he said it was important housing was more diverse to allow first home buyers and people wanting to downsize to find their way into the market.
The building, when completed, may stand as Campbelltown’s tallest but that is set to change in the next 10 to 15 years as investors eye off Campbelltown.
