Campbelltown’s biggest white elephant — the Panjo building — is up for sale yet again.

The empty $50 million building at the gateway to the city in Leumeah was slated to become a childcare centre and apartment complex as recently as 2015 but the project never went ahead despite having Campbelltown Council approval.

The property on Grange Rd at Leumeah is being advertised for sale by real estate agents Knight Frank until July 20.

It is described as being in “cold shell condition and ready to fit out to suit a variety of owner occupiers or investor uses”.

Campbelltown independent councillor Paul Lake said he had become frustrated at the building’s lack of usage since construction first began on it in 2008.

“When the guy first proposed it as a children’s entertainment centre he had a lot of really big ideas and sounded like a real go-getter,” he said.

“It’s frustrating that someone else has come along to rejig the place for apartments and a childcare centre then after we’ve approved the development it’s being sold again.

“There are a lot of ideas for what it could be used for, I’d like to see something like serviced apartments as it’s hard for us to attract big events out here with what we have at the moment.”

The property has no price guide and the cost will be negotiated on application.
