GOLF balls may soon be flying all over the region, with a driving range on the cards for a central Campbelltown location.
A three hectare site at Hepher Rd, Campbelltown has been earmarked as a potential golf driving range, with Campbelltown Council now on the search for an interested party to develop the site.
The site currently functions as a drainage reserve.
Campbelltown Council acting director of city governance Chris Redman said this was an opportunity to deliver a unique facility to the area.
“Golf is considered to be a major sport in Australia and the proposed golf driving range would offer a unique recreational facility for the community,” he said.
“To maximise the use of the land for the community, council considered whether (the Hepher Rd site) was an asset that also had the potential to deliver income or other community benefits.”
A council review indicated there was an opportunity for a golf driving range, after the public golf driving range at Western Sydney University Campbelltown campus ceased operation about five years ago.
“Council reviewed the current available facilities in the Macarthur region,” Mr Redman said.
“It identified that there are established golf courses, but there was also an opportunity to establish a golf driving range, to provide a practice facility for players and for beginners to develop their skills.”

Council has called for Expressions of Interest to develop the site as a golf driving range, with expressions to close on November 23. Council would not develop or operate the driving range.
If a successful applicant is found and pending approvals, the driving range could be in operation from about December next year.
