CAMPBELLTOWN Camden District Cricket Club's first-grade side laid a formidable foundation against rivals Bankstown in day one of Sydney Grade Cricket's third round, finishing at 2-97 with only 80 runs needed for the win next week.
Bankstown won the toss and batted first, but Ghosts bowlers Scott Coyte (4-38), Brendan Jones (3-14), Hamish Oxley (1-23) Arjun Bagga and Nathan Brain helped roll them for 176.
The Ghosts' innings started with Australian under-19 captain Damien Mortimer dismissed lbw, but Ryan Gibson and Josh Clarke batted well.
At Raby Oval, second grade didn't enjoy the same form and ended their day at 3-21 chasing Bankstown's 300.
Ghosts bowlers Ben Bourke and Tristan Muir finished with three wickets each on a tricky pitch.
Third grade dismissed Bankstown for 135 runs, with young bowlers Chris Inger (5-25) and Josh Appleton (3-16) bowling well. The Ghosts started their chase well and are at 2-88 and require 47 next week with eight wickets in hand. Opener Peter McKell will resume on 55 not out.
Fourth grade had a tough Saturday afternoon on Raby 2, as Bankstown posted 7-298 and are poised to finish their innings with a large total.
In fifth grade, the Ghosts required 241 runs next week at Bankstown. Veteran Todd O'Keefe hopes to steer the side home on the smallat Graham Thomas Oval.
