Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club first grade opened the 2013-14 Sydney Grade season with a record number of runs scored in an innings.
The Ghosts posted a whopping 440 against Gordon at Chatswood Oval.
The Ghosts only lost seven wickets en route to dismantling the club’s previous innings record of 401 runs.
Opening batsman Ardil Domingo, of Ingleburn, led the onslaught with 171.
Domingo, who has recently returned from a successful season in England, secured the third-highest individual run total in a first- grade match for the club, surpassing Shane Lee’s big 1993 effort of 166 against Hawkesbury.
The Ghosts’ top order performed well with Josh Clarke scoring 51 and new signing Ryan Gibson 47.
Gordon were in for further punishment when captain Scott Coyte came to the crease at 2-223 and delivered a classy 70 runs.
Ben Bourke ended the day with 32 runs from 14 balls.
Club secretary Jason Ellsmore said it was a fantastic opening to the season.
“The boys are fairly proud of themselves for setting a new high score for our club,” he said.
“It was a solid team effort, but they’re realistic and know they still have to take 10 wickets next weekend.”
Ellsmore said the club was excited to show off its new signings.
“We’ve signed all-rounder Ajun Bagga, who adds depth to our batting order, and his 27 runs were a great start,” he said. Ellsmore said 47 runs from Gibson was proof the top order would be stronger in 2013-14.
“He’s a fantastic player with NSW experience,” he said.
At Raby Oval, Ghosts’ second-grade side finished play at 7-248. Zac Churchill scored 59 before skipper David Ward posted an impressive 89. On Raby No. 2, fourth grade held the visitors to 9-250 on a batting-friendly wicket. Fifth-grade Ghosts declared at 167 before Gordon scored score 41.
