CAMDEN Rugby Union Club is encouraging youngsters to try out the sport over the next six weeks.
The club is hosting the Try Rugby program, which offers children an opportunity to play rugby in a safe and fun environment.
Coach John Kennedy said it was a chance for children to learn how to play the game and make new friends.
"It's a chance for kids to pick up a footy and have a bit of fun," he said.
"Rugby is a great game and we'd like to see more kids participate in their local competition."
Kennedy said the program was open to five to 12-year-olds.
"There's no tackling involved, so there's no fear of anyone getting hurt," he said. "Everyone at the club is looking forward to the program and there should be some exciting things for kids to learn."
Kennedy encouraged children to sign up to the program.
"We'd love to see plenty of parents bring their kids down to have a go," he said.
"Just don't forget to bring a pen for autographs."
The program will be held at Camden Rugby Park from 4.30-6.30pm on Wednesdays. Each session costs $10. Everyone enrolled in the program receives a number of free items, including a rugby ball, backpack and drink bottle.
The program starts tomorrow and runs until March 13. Visit: camdenrugby.com.au
