A southwest Sydney vocal coach allegedly groomed a 15-year-old girl and assaulted her four years ago.

James Cassar, 30, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity, meeting a child groomed for sexual activity, and two counts of indecent assaulting a person under the age of 16.

According to court documents, police allege he groomed a 15-year-old girl between January and May 2018.

It is understood that police will allege in April 2018, Mr Cassar told the young girl “when you turn 16 and you don’t have anyone to do with or lose it [her virginity] to, I’d be happy to do that with you”.

It is also understood police will allege he asked the young girl to send him intimate photos.

According to court documents, it is also alleged that in May 2018, Mr Cassar met with the 15-year-old, kissed her and groped her breast.

It is understood that Mr Cassar asked the young girl over to watch a television show before the alleged assaults happened.

In court on Wednesday, it was advised the Director of Public Prosecutions would likely elect to take on the case.

The Camden resident is currently on bail and required to report to police once a week. No pleas have been entered in relation to these charges.

Mr Cassar returns to Picton Local Court in February 2023.
