Camden Lakeside Golf Club defeats Macquarie Links for Metropolitan Major Pennants division four title
CAMDEN Lakeside Golf Club enjoyed a victory over Macquarie Links in the Metropolitan Major Pennants division four final.
Camden Lakeside Golf Club won a fierce battle with local rivals Macquarie Links to secure a historic win in division four of the Metropolitan Major Pennants last month.
The club secured the win and a promotion to division three with a 4-3 victory against Macquarie Links in the final at Terrey Hills Golf Club.
After Camden Lakeside recorded victories to Jay Choma and Darren Hawkins, No. 7 Scott Shanahan grabbed a two-hole victory to lock the day’s scores at 3-3.
The decisive match came down to Camden Lakeside’s No. 1 Ben Warby, who went into the 17th hole with a one hole lead and finished the job with two-and-one victory.
Team manager Brian Geerin told the Macarthur Chronicle the victory “was a special moment for the club”.
“It was a gutsy victory and the boys were really stoked. They went in as underdogs but they held on and it was a close day,” he said.
Geerin said the club was “honoured” with the division three promotion.
“They’ve had their hearts set on division three for a long time and they really earned it. But we’ll aim even higher and next season we’ll give division two our best shot.”
