Camden District Cricket Association juniors have wrapped up another successful season.

Despite the weather’s best efforts to spoil the occasion on Sunday, all games were completed.

The grand finals were played across the Macarthur region with results in all games.

CDCA secretary Christine Gartrell said she was pleased with the weekend and the season overall.

“All the games were incredibly close and all of the games were played the right way – in the spirit of the sport,” she said.

“All matches were finished which was a relief; we just had to move a couple of games.”

Camden featured heavily in the weekend’s deciders with six teams representing the club.

Tahmoor, Magpies and Cobbitty Narellan all had four teams participating in the weekend of grand finals.

Mrs Gartrell said the season had been successful.

“It’s been an absolutely excellent season,” she said.

“It’s been stressful from time to time but it’s been worth it.”

Incredibly, despite a reasonably wet summer no games have been washed out. “The season has been really good we haven’t had any junior games washed out,” Mrs Gartrell said. “The players have all played well.’’

With the ICC World Cup taking centre stage and the Big Bash gaining popularity, there may be a concern that youngsters taking up the sport would be too cavalier in their style of play.

Mrs Gartrell said she didn’t think the coaches would allow too much show boating. “The coaches are quite good in that regard,” she said. “They wouldn’t take too kindly if there was too many ramps or reverse sweeps being played.

“They try to make sure the basics are successful, a nice straight bat is always preferable.”
