Sydney Water has issued an apology after a water outage forced the closure of a major high school and sent more than 1000 students back to home learning.

Camden High School had to temporarily close on Friday due to “urgent emergency repairs” that left the school without direct water access.

The school wrote to parents just after the morning drop off run saying it had been “necessary to declare a learning from home situation” for students on Friday.”

Parents should make arrangements to collect children from school as soon as possible,” the school wrote.”

The bus bay will also be available as an emergency pick up point.

“Minimal supervision will be available for students who are unable to be picked up. Thankyou for your support and co-operation.”

Sydney Water has confirmed the source of the repairs was a burst water main at Ironbark Ave in Camden.

A Sydney Water spokeswoman said crews remain on site on Saturday.

“Network technicians isolated the main and repairs are complete with crews remaining on site today to clean up and begin restoration,” she said.

“Sydney Water apologises for any inconvenience to our customers.”

It is understood Sydney Water supplied the school with a water tanker to continue operations however the school chose to declare learning home arrangements.

Renai Mainwaring – a former P&C president of the school – said she knew of several parents of the school who had to take the day off work to mind their children.
