A gas rigger thought “he was safe” to make a turn right in front of a motorcycle rider who was sent flying 10m in a crash that tragically turned fatal.
Bradley Macpherson, 43, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to negligent driving occasioning death.
Court documents state the Raglan resident was driving a ute southbound on the Old Hume Hwy at Camden and prepared to turn right onto Wire Ln about 4pm on June 17.
Eric Brand, 52, was riding a motorcycle in the opposite direction and was about 15m south of the intersection of Wire Ln when Macpherson turned into the road in front of him.
Due to the lack of distance, Brand crashed into the rear of the ute before he was ejected from the seat and landed 10m away.
Police were on the scene immediately as they were pulling out of the nearby Camden Valley Inn and rendered first aid with the assistance of bystanders.
Paramedics arrived a short time later; however, Brand could not be saved and was declared dead at 5.05pm.
During a police interview, Macpherson told officers, “I only took the turn because I thought I was safe”.
At court on Wednesday, the police prosecutor indicated more charges could be laid, but the matter was still set down for sentence in 2024.
A funeral notice for Mr Brand said he was “a dearly loved husband” and “devoted father” who will be dearly loved and forever missed by all his family and friends.
