The first stage of the project, the $74 million residential aged care facility will start construction in 2020. It is expected to be complete within 18-20 months, pending Campbelltown Council approval.

The development will create 110 new jobs in the aged care facility, with carers, registered nurses, maintenance and administrative staff among the roles to be filled.

Anglicare chief executive officer Grant Millard said places in the facility would provide affordable accommodation for a range of people.

“Almost 2000 people in the Campbelltown LGA are over 55 and living in private rental homes with a $500 weekly income,” he said.

“With us, these people won’t be subject to their landlord changing their mind and other challenges that come up when living in a rental property.”

“So there is no doubt about the need for affordable accommodation for retirees in South West Sydney so it’s clearly a growth area for us.

According Population Id, the number of retirement-aged (70 years and older) people in the Campbelltown local government area will increase by 445 per cent by 2036.

The biggest increase will be in the number of people aged 70 to 84, which will increase by 10,000 to almost 20,000 people.

The number of people aged 60 to 69 will also increase to more than 20,000 people.
