The inner workings of an elaborate inside job which scammed thousands of dollars from national food delivery giant Menulog have been laid bare, with a man confessing to his role in the dodgy operation.
Anderson Nguyen, 31, collected about $40,000 across a series of unexplained bank transfers from the accounts of Menulog Pty Ltd and Eatnow Pty Ltd during an eight-month period in 2018.
The Oran Park man, who lived at Cecil Hills at the time of his criminal behaviour, had a mate who worked as an accountant for the food delivery giant.
The police statement of facts, tendered to the court, outlined how Nguyen’s friend Jason Tang’s role was to authorise payments to restaurants which used the Menulog and Eatnow services.

On 14 occasions between February 23 and October 5 2018, Tang authorised payments to one of Nguyen’s bank accounts under the reference of a restaurant. Nguyen would generally forward on the cash to his main bank account.
The sophisticated scam came undone when Tang, who resigned from Menulog in September 2018, accessed the systems and authorised another payment to Nguyen using a device tracked to his home address.
The court heard Nguyen was suffering from major depression and gambling issues at the time of the scam and had since completed positive lifestyle programs.
His lawyer said Nguyen’s role was less serious than Tang, who the court heard had pleaded guilty to his role and was sentenced to a 12-month intensive corrections order and ordered to repay Menulog.
Deputy chief Magistrate Michael Allen convicted Nguyen for dealing with property proceeds of crime and sentenced him to a two-year community corrections order.
