ADAM Scott's record-breaking US Masters victory inspired Antill Park Country Golf Club to create their own history and establish an annual green jacket tournament.
About 40 members packed into the Picton clubhouse to watch Scott become the first Australian to win the US Masters in the tournament's 77-year history.
"When Scott sunk that putt on the second play-off hole, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't hear us from over in Augusta; we nearly tore the roof off here," club treasurer John Vincent said.
Inspired members hit the Antill fairways immediately after the tournament and decided the competition winner would receive an embroided green jacket.
The winner's name happened also to be Adam Scott. "We have a member named Adam Scott and I guess it was fate that he won the inaugural Antill Park green jacket," Vincent said.
Antill Park head professional Brett Chappell was at Augusta National Golf Club and said the victory was great for junior golf.
"I've woken up early on the Monday morning every year since childhood and to be there at Augusta and witness Australian sporting history was something I'll never forget," he said.
"We've got a great junior program at Antill and Adam Scott's win will do wonders for junior participation and also for our pennants team, who enter division one of the Metropolitan competition next year."
