A LANDMARK Macarthur area home, featured in internationally-acclaimed television series A Place to Call Home, may soon become a memory.

The 55-hectare family farm and homestead, also known as “Regina’s House” on A Place to Call Home, has been the Sharpe family home for nearly 100 years and five generations.

It is poised to be obliterated by the M9 Outer Sydney Orbital draft corridor.

The Outer Sydney Orbital Macarthur Action Group said in a statement the eight-lane M9 “monstrosity” would change Camden and families such as the Sharpe’s, forever.

“The family property of 55ha has been home to five generations of the family with 93-year-old Fred still living in the original homestead and running the farm,” the statement said.
“Three generations of the family still live on the property and had no intention of moving in the future.

“This is their home, has been since birth and they all intended on it staying that way.”

The Sharpe family home has doubled as the home of Regina Standish (played by Jenni Baird) in A Place to Call Home.

The Sharpe family property was once a successful dairy farm, the farm now produces beef cattle, pastures and produce as one of the last working farms in the Camden area.

The Action Group said the uncertain future facing the family, with three generations currently living on the site, is heart wrenching.

“It would be hard to imagine Camden could ever be the same if this proposal for the M9 is permitted to proceed,” the statement said.

“Camden is a historic town known for its farming history, country charm and peaceful outlook.

“This would be lost forever if this monstrosity was to go ahead.

“We need to preserve the historic town of Camden for our future generations to enjoy.”

More than 4000 members of the community have joined the Outer Sydney Orbital Macarthur Action Group, with a public forum to be held on Saturday.

The forum will begin at 4pm at Camden Civic Centre.
