At JUST 15, Panania youngster Emaison Beck is earning her stripes and setting herself up to be an Aussie netball star.
For her hard work, determination and incredible skill, the goal shooter/goal attack is this week’s Local Sports Star nominee in the category of Junior Sports Star Individual.
“My mum got me into playing netball when I was six and I just fell in love with it,” she said.
“It’s a real team sport where you need to rely on your teammates.
“I love the friendships that I’ve made through netball.”
The Picnic Point Pumas player took her career to the next level recently by earning a spot in the Western Sydney Academy of Sport netball program, where she will further develop her skills and fitness.
“It was a pretty big deal for me — I couldn’t believe it,” Emaison said on her selection into the prestigious program.
Emaison said she takes most of her inspiration from Greater Western Sydney Giants goal shooter/goal attack Susan Pettitt.
“She’s just such a great player and always gives 100 per cent,” Emaison said.
“She’s definitely my biggest idol in the sport, that’s for sure.”
Emaison said her greatest dream was to follow in the footsteps of Pettitt by playing for a professional club.
“Playing netball is what I love doing, so to do it professionally would be amazing,” Emaison said.
“Playing for Australia would obviously be a highlight also.”
Emaison also plays in the Metro League for Bankstown.
The Local Sports Star program has five categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Stars Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Team, and Service to Sport.
