Isaac Finau knows how to score a try. He’s this week’s Local Sports Stars nominee due to his try-scoring feats which have to been seen to be believed.

The six-year-old St Clair Comets junior has scored 59 tries from 12 games this season, and with two more remaining he could go past 70 four-pointers for the year.

The Oakhurst resident has, unsurprisingly, received several awards during the season such as player of the week and the encouragement medal.

“This has been my favourite season with 59 tries so far and I’ve scored eight tries in one game twice,” he said.

“Thank you to my coach Aaron (Hoban) for the last three years, teaching me everything he knows about the game we both love.”

Isaac’s extraordnary achievements on the field could be put down to one major advantage – he’s been playing in the under-6s since he was three years old.

And after a tough initiation playing against the older kids, he’s finally gaining an edge on his peers, having played more football than most of them who would be only starting to play the game.

“I love having fun and get excited for game days. I love tackling and helping my teammates,” he said.
