JANAYA Marlowe is determined to play netball for Australia and she’s already tasted representative success.
The 13-year-old is this week’s Local Sports Stars nominee after she made the NSW indigenous netball team.
But it got even better for the Lethbridge Park player.
After good form for NSW she was picked in the Australian indigenous Budgies team.
“My dream is to become a professional netballer. I want to play centre for Australia one day,” she said.
Marlowe plays centre and has had a natural instinct for the game from her very beginnings as a six-year-old playing at the Emerton netball courts.
“I think I’m a good netballer because I know what’s coming at me and what’s not,” she said.
Being selected in the indigenous teams was a bonus for Marlowe, who said she was proud to represent her heritage.
“It felt good to make that team,” she said.
Despite her success, she’s not resting for a minute as she pursues further accolades.
Marlowe said she would only dedicate more time to the game she loves now that she’s been given the confidence booster of being seen as a representative player.
“I have to train harder,” she said.
“I enjoy meeting new people and I have a great time on the court.”
Netball is the number one priority at the moment and going from Emerton netball courts to the Australian senior team will be some journey.
