While her competitive days may be behind her, Di Carn is currently doing the most important work of her career.

The 43 year old is the head instructor and owner of Irontiger Taekwondo in Castle Hill.

A Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Ms Carn is currently the only female coach on the Australian taekwondo Olympic Committee and holds a high position on the board of directors for taekwondo NSW.

Her passion for the sport is second to none and that love of taekwondo is one of the biggest things she instils in her students.

“Master Di Carn has had a huge impact on my son as an example,” Lisa Tedros said.

“Her started out with Di at four years old and he is now 13. He was the type of kid that would hang on to my pants and hide behind my leg. It was in that first week that the connection was made with Master Di and it continues to this day. She has helped my son with his confidence, self esteem, focus and to really love his chosen sport.

“She has led him to many state, national and international titles and the sky’s the limit for him. She has always encouraged him to be the best he can be, to be humble in victory and in defeat.

“I can honestly say that because of Master Di he is growing to be a great young man and I am indebted to her for the rest of my life. He is just one of many that she has impacted in this way.”

Di is a nominee for the 2018 Hills Shire Times Local Sports Stars awards.

The competition is now closed.
