Baulkham Hills football sensation Alex Djamirze has a big adventure ahead of him – and a big future too.
The 14-year-old will travel to Spain in August and spend 10 months playing football with Seville football club A.D. Nervion.
Last year he underwent a four-week trial at the International Spain Soccer Academy Seville, and was scouted to come back and play for Nervion.
Alex said he was “kind of nervous and excited” about his stay in Spain, where he will play football twice a day and also attend school there.
It will not be his first overseas trip though — in 2015 he played in an international youth competition in Russia, and last year he played for Russian Premier League team Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Alex has been learning Spanish for the past year in preparation for his trip, juggling his lessons with his sports commitments.
Alex is a member of the Australasian Soccer Academy and plays in the NPL2 for the Rydalmere Lyons FC as well as for his school, Gilroy Catholic College.
He mainly plays left wing and said he loved “everything” about football.
The Local Sports Star nominee started playing football at the age of three and said he hoped to “make it professionally” one day.
His talents are not just in football – Alex is a three-time national champion in taekwondo and became a black belt at the age of six.
He also trains in athletics, water polo, judo and indoor football to improve his overall abilities.
Nominations are now open for the Local Sports Stars program.
