Sam Loizou’s success shows that age really is just a number. What really matters is how hard you work.
At just 16-years-old, the Beaumont Hills rugby league star is the youngest player in the NSWRL SG Ball Cup competition.
After a standout 2019 season for the Parramatta Eels, Sam took out the team’s best and fairest award before being selected in the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges squad for the Australian Schoolboy Championships.
Another impressive showing then saw Sam earn a spot as the youngest player in the 2019 Australian Schoolboys side.
“I was quite thrilled and relieved that I had been given the opportunity to represent my country,” Sam said.
“There were many quality players at the carnival and I was quite blessed to be picked.
“Being the youngest person in the side is definitely an achievement I am proud of.
“Making the Australian Schoolboys and being named best and fairest for Parramatta in the SG Ball competition shows that regardless of your age, if you have the motivation to train hard and play well you can achieve your goals.”
Sam is a Rouse Hill Times Junior Sports Star nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition, which is proudly sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bankstown Sports.
The awards recognise and reward talented athletes across a wide range of sports, as well as the hardworking volunteers who keep associations running each weekend.
