RYLEIGH Delacour-Batch is a record-breaking athlete and now has her dad’s mark in her sights.
The Panania Public School student smashed the 400m mark not once but twice at the Revesby Workers Little Athletics Centre.
She broke the girls under-9 record at 1:16:72 seconds before lowering it to 1:15:83 in a space of three months.
Her dad Chris’ mark is 1:15:00 in the under-9 boys back in 86-87 and Ryleigh is keen to break that too,
This week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star Award won silver in 100m, 800m and long jump and the gold in the 400m in the zone titles.
Ryleigh has collected silvers in the 100m, 400m, 800m in the regional championships. “My best performance was at the 2017 state little athletics championships where I finished fourth in the 400m final,” Ryleigh, 9, said.
“I felt really good and happy both my mum and dad were so excited for me (when I broke the record).”.
“I have a healthy competitive relationship with my dad with the 400m, that’s what helped me break the record twice, I really wanted to beat his time.
“My dad helps me a lot and I really like that.”
Ryleigh also competes in taekwondo, football, baseball, rugby league, touch football and cross country.
“My goals in athletics are to get personal bests and to try and compete at high levels, if I’m lucky enough the Commonwealth Games or Olympics in the future.”
