Vidur Subramaniam’s stellar golf career didn’t begin on the green or the fairway.

“I was first inspired when my dad started playing at home,” the 10 year-old from Beecroft said.

“He used to come home from work and putt in the front room. I started copying him and got hooked into it from there.”

His humble beginnings have served him well since, dominating tournaments at local and representative levels alike.

A victory in the North Ryde Parramatta Golf Club cadet tournament in 2015 first put Vidur on the path to success, slowly adding to his tally with wins at the US Kids NSW Championship and NSW Primary Schools Sports Association golf tournament.

The Beecroft youngster has already won several tournaments and competed at a representative level.

The Arden Anglican School student secured a fourth-place finish at the US Kids Golf Australian Open in January and won the US Kids Autumn Tour.

Vidur loves the variety of golf.

“It’s not like other sports where every day is the same sort of thing,” he said.

“When you hit a shot from a certain spot one day, it could end up in a completely different spot if you hit it from there again the next day.

“It’s an exciting game to play.”

Vidur Subramaniam has been nominated for NewsLocal’s Junior Sports Star-Individual award.

Nominations have now closed.
