Punchbowl’s junior Rooster Amer Ghazzaoui eyes NRL pro career after outstanding season

The 18-year-old Punchbowl local plays football and basketball for his school and is a record-breaking athlete.
But his dream is to make it as a professional rugby league player.
He is on the right track, having played for the Sydney Roosters SG Ball team this season.
The modest Amer is this week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star Awards, proudly sponsored by Featherdale National Park.
“It is my dream to be professional rugby league player and I am dedicated in what I do,” Amer said.
“I train three times a week in league and also do my other sorts. I am also preparing for my HSC this year and I am a bit nervous about it.”
Amer, who is over 192cm tall and weighs around 88kg, is a crack short distance runner and also tops the school in high jump events.
His sporting prowess includes basketball as the team made the finals of a prestigious school competition, and touch football for the Bankstown zone team.
“My greatest achievement to date is being named as a member of the junior Sydney Roosters and we just failed to make it to the finals,” Amer said.

“One of the toughest challenges I have had to overcome was having to learn the game of basketball quickly enough to help my team. I started late in high school.
“All what I have achieved in sports is thanks to me Dad and mum who support me and take me to the games.
“The school has also done a lot for me and given me so many opportunities.
