In 2016, Parramatta’s then under-12 girls touch football team suffered a devastating defeat in the grand final of the Junior State Cup.
However, few people could have foreseen the dynasty that the pain of that loss set in motion.
The team has since gone on to claim two Junior State Cup championships and establish themselves as one of the best young touch footy teams in the country.
Despite the rapid success the team has already achieved, coach Mark Donkin said the girls are just getting started.
“These girls epitomise what sport and great sports people are about,” Donkin said.
“They’re really good at what they do but we have no egos.
“Many members of this team will represent at much higher levels but our ultimate goal is to win more state cups than any other team in this age group, along with ensuring the close knit nature of the team dynamic is nurtured.”
Parramatta Touch Football’s under-14 girls team are a Parramatta Advertiser Team of Excellence nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition, which is proudly sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bankstown Sports.
