Age is no barrier for Nicolette Donofrio.
The 14 year-old athletics superstar from Hunters Hill was named under 16 200m national champion after dominating at the Athletics Australia Championships earlier this month.
Despite competing against girls two years older than her, Nicolette claimed gold with a lightning quick time of 25.60.
She also added to her medal haul from the competition with a silver in the 4 x 100m relay and bronzes in hurdles and the 4 x 200m relay.
Nicolette’s athletic prowess is no surprise considering her elite pedigree- both of her parents Vicki and Pino are national champions in martial arts.
Not one to rest on her laurels however, Nicolette is currently training 12 hours a week as she looks ahead to her next challenge.
“I’m training hard for (the world juniors) and for the Canadian Championships in July,” she said.
“But my biggest dream is to make it to the Olympics.”
Nicolette Donofrio has been nominated for NewsLocal’s Junior Sports Star-Individual award.
