Moorebank Liverpool District Hockey Club president Kevin Flack recognised for service
Moorebank Liverpool District Hockey Club president Kevin Flack is known as an icon at the club and within the Sydney hockey scene. He’s been recognised for his contributions to the sport.
He’s worked tirelessly behind the scenes of Moorebank Liverpool District Hockey Club for more than 40 years and, at 79, Kevin Flack still embodies the spirit of volunteering.
Having occupied a number of roles within the club — including serving as its current president — since his children took up hockey decades ago, Mr Flack has helped steer it to great heights.
For his contributions to the organisation, he has been nominated for the Service to Sport award as part of the Local Sports Star competition.
The award recognises an individual club member or volunteer of a sporting organisation who shows the greatest level of passion, determination and impact of contribution.
Fellow club volunteer and board member John Scott described Mr Flack, a longtime friend, as “an icon of the club”.
“In Sydney, he’s an icon of the sport.”
The retiree is known for taking on any job that needs to be done, including mowing the lawns, helping out in the club canteen and picking up rubbish.
One of his greatest contributions has been securing funding and government grants for the club’s three Olympic-grade hockey fields.
“He’s given selflessly for the whole time he’s been involved. It’s one of those things where he doesn’t want any accolades, he doesn’t want any appreciation,” Mr Scott said.
He said Mr Flack had not only invested his time and energy, but also his own money for equipment and uniforms.
“He’ll do anything. There was no pretence that was involved.”
