Heath Davy is celebrating being crowned junior East Coast motocross champion, winning all but one of the 15 races in the championship.

The Milperra rider, who is just 9, won all three races last weekend’s championship to seal the 15-round event.

Heath has had a phenomenal season this year and won selection for the NSW team for the 2019 Australian Championships in October, and was second in the King of MX championships (7-9 years) in June.

Health, this week’s Junior Sports Sport Star Award nominee, travels most weekends for his training and competition.

The Panania Public School student took up the tough sport when he was four at Sutherland mini bike club.

“I love the fun of motocross and don’t have time for other sports,” Heath said.

“No, I don’t feel nervous on the bike and do love going fast.

“I love the challenge and the focus the sport requires, it has taught me to never give up.

“No matter how hard the challenge you can succeed.

“It has taught me many life skills I can use in everyday life and taught me to be humble even in success.

“I love the families and friends we have meet along the way, who I now call my moto family. Everyone is so supportive.

“I train twice a week with a local gym, One PT, and do my bike trainings every Saturday for eight hours.”

Heath also cycles to improve his fitness and uses his free time to practice his positions on the motobike in the garage.

He said motocross is as much a mental as it is a physical sport.

“I train hard to avoid injury and to date have been successful,” Heath said.

“The mental challenge has been the toughest.

“When you line up at the gates with 39 other bikes all fighting to get the corner first, it can be overwhelming.

“Together with my coach and my parents we have worked on overcoming any mental barriers.

“My ultimate goal is race in America at Loretta Lynns — MX Sports Amateur national Motocross Championships.”

He said he is grateful to his parents and his sponsors, including Force Roofing Specialist, MCD Racing and Suspension and Fasthouse Australia.

“My parents have backed me every step of the way,” Heath said.

“They have always told me that I will never be last because they are behind me.

“Without my parents allowing me to follow my dreams I wouldn’t be here.”
