LAUREN Barter has not only jumped her way to a gold medal in the under-11s synchronised trampolining event, but to a Local Sports Stars nomination.
The nine-year-old was stoked to win gold at the Australian Gymnastics Championships and said that it was a massive achievement for her.
“I felt really happy. It was my first nationals and I won the gold medal,” Lauren said.
The Mt Druitt resident trains three days a week and is extremely passionate about the sport.
“I love trampolining because I get to compete with other people to see what skills they can do and I can show others what I can do,” she said.
While Lauren has been taught all the tricks on the trampoline, she wants to learn to jump higher than her teammates.
“I can jump pretty high but most of the people in my group can jump really, really high,” she said.
The trampolinist displays great sportsmanship as she cheers for the older girls as well as her teammates when new skills are accomplished.
Just like any true competitor, Lauren’s main goal in the future is to be the best trampolinist she can be. And better than all her other rivals.
“I want to become better and learn more skills. I want to be competing at the Olympics one day,” she said.
Besides synchronised trampolining, she also loves netball and athletics.
The five categories for nominations are Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Star Team and Service to Sport.
