MITCHEL Krogh has been playing football since he was four and spends most of his free time either watching the sport on TV or playing it on his PS4.
This week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star Award is also picking the brains of famous footballers, using videos to learn about their skills.
Mitchell, to put it bluntly, lives and breathers football and takes his sport very seriously.
The 15-year-old Stanhope Gardens footballer also helps the younger teams at his Newbury Bulls club in their training, with his younger brother Ryan also benefiting from his support.
The Newbury Bulls clubhouse was destroyed in a blaze earlier this month.
“I enjoy soccer as it was the first team sport I ever played since I was 4 years old,” Mitchell said.
“It’s a sport I enjoy and one I feel most confident playing.
“It keeps me motivated and fit and I get to play with my friends as a team.
“There are many great soccer heroes and players that I look up to, although for me (Argentine ace Lionel) Messi stands out the most because of his unique skills.
“I play the right wing position and in the past I’ve always been a defender.
“I’m currently working on my skills involving attacking.”
Mitchell said his best season was last year when the Newbury Bulls — he received his 10-year jacket there in 2016 — won the grand final with ease.
“This year we have played well as a team so far with many new players who have gelled well as a team,” the Oakhill College student said.
“I like to improve on my finishing and striking skills, since my previous years were mostly defending positions.
“My long term goals would be to be play soccer and improve on my confidence and skills all around.
“I would like to be able to work more on creating a possessive game and become more confident with passing.
“Sometimes I help with my younger brothers team (under-14s and I enjoy being able to challenge them and pass down some of the skills I have learnt over the years.”
