Local Sports Star nominee Liam Christie shows how it’s done at Australian gymnastics event

Liam Christie is all set for the 2017 World Age Championships in Bulgaria in November after capturing three gold medals at the recent 2017 Australian gymnastics championships.

LIAM Christie is all set for the 2017 World Age Championships in Bulgaria in November after capturing three gold medals at the recent 2017 Australian gymnastics championships.

The brilliant 15-year-old Kellyville Ridge gymnast sealed his Australian spot by capturing golds in double mini trampoline, synchronised trampoline and a team gold with NSW in the double mini trampoline.

This week’s Local Sports Star nominee’s eye-catching performances are more impressive because it was his debut at the junior elite category (under-19) on the national stage.

The rising star was awarded the 2016 Australian Junior Male Athlete of the Year in trampoline gymnastics and won gold in the double mini trampoline at the 2016 Indopacific Championships where he duelled against competitors from New Zealand, Canada, Japan and South Africa.

Liam, who took part at the 2015 World Age Championships in Denmark, also won a bronze in the individual trampoline at the Indopacific meet.

Liam Christie has all the moves.

Liam trains four days a week and is also working at FlipOut to raise money for his international competitions.

“Liam always encourages the younger athletes in his club and enjoys being a role model for other kids and handles himself with grace regardless of the results,” his mum Anne Marie said.
