ALEKS Komatovic is this week’s Local Sports Stars nominee and he could have won the honour through his deeds in a number of sports.

But for Aleks, taekwondo is the sport in which he’s doing everything he can to ensure he’s the best in the country for

his age.

The 13-year-old competes out of the Elite Martial Arts & Fitness Centre in Minchinbury and trains there five days a week.

“Minchinbury is like my second home. All my instructors are there and I respect the centre a lot,” he said.

Aleks is a three-time national taekwondo champion and 10-time state title winner as well as being named Sportsperson of the Year at Cambridge Park High.

“It’s fun and it means a lot to me,” he said. “I get inspiration from taekwondo and I want to go to the Olympics one day and be an instructor.”

Aleks has also excelled in swimming, cross country running and was the World Cup Karate champion in point sparring.

He’s currently a first dan black belt.
