She’s set records and won a series of championship titles this year, but Hinchinbrook teen Emily Malakovski is hungry for more.
The 14-year-old athlete has enjoyed a spectacular season, winning gold in high jump at the NSW Little Athletics Championships and the NSW Junior Athletics Championships in the under-14 and under-15 groups respectively.
She was also crowned champion in the under-15 girls pole vault event at the NSW Junior Athletics competition.
At this year’s USA DownUnder Championships, Emily placed first in the under-16 girls high jump and woman’s open high jump events.
On top of that, the Westfields Sports High student won the 14-year high jump at the Regional Sydney South West School sport athletics carnival, setting a new regional record.
Emily said winning all the major high jump events in her age group was “definitely” her biggest success so far.
“I feel I have trained hard and really improved my jumps, setting many new (personal bests),” she said.
“I love to jump, it’s so much fun and I hope I can keep raising the bar really high.”
Next month, she will attend Coles Australian Little Athletics Nationals camp in Canberra, where she will receive elite coaching.
Emily has been nominated for a Junior Sports Star individual award in the Local Sports Stars competition, sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bankstown Sports.
