James Leo might only be 11 but the taekwondo competitor is already a veteran of the sport. He has won numerous state titles and is our latest Local Sports Star nominee.

JAMES Leo has been involved in taekwondo since he was just four years old, and that experience has helped him win various state titles.

And now he can add a Local Sports Stars nomination to the list.

James, 11, took home two gold medals at the recent Sydney Taekwondo Championships, and this weekend will head to the state titles, looking to add to his five golds won at his past three state events.

“I’ve been successful, but it’s still hard when you fight new people,” the St Clair resident said.

“I can’t remember much about when I started because I was so young, but it’s come pretty natural to me.

“I think I’ll go well this weekend, but it’s never easy. Sometimes you think the other person doesn’t look that tough, then come out and are great.”
